Kyiv: Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday, marking the first visit by a senior Israeli official to Ukraine since 2023. Sa'ar is noted as the highest-level Israeli official to visit Kyiv since February 2023, when then-Foreign Minister Eli Cohen visited the country. This visit is recognized as a significant diplomatic engagement between Israel and Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli Channel 12 described Sa'ar's arrival in Kyiv as part of a 'diplomatic visit.' However, no details were provided about the minister's agenda or the duration of the visit. In a related development earlier this year, Israeli Ambassador to Kyiv Michael Brodsky announced that Israel had sent Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, which were initially provided to Israel by the US and had been operational since the 1990s.

Sa'ar's visit occurs amid ongoing tensions as Israel continues its military actions in the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 2023, more than 59,100 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed as a result of the conflict. The military operations have severely impacted the Gaza Strip, leading to the collapse of its health system and causing critical food shortages. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
