Hebron:Israeli forces have intensified their operations in the West Bank, reportedly raiding 400 sites and detaining dozens of Palestinians. In the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron, Israeli troops have turned Palestinian homes into military barracks and observation posts, forcing residents to evacuate. This development marks the second day of the military operation.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Israeli forces took over homes in the Khallat Manna and Dahiyat al-Zaytoun areas of southern Hebron. The troops utilized these properties as military installations after displacing the residents. The operation has involved the eviction of hundreds of families since it began, with extensive raids and severe movement restrictions imposed across the region.
In addition to the events in Hebron, near Bethlehem, Israeli forces have blocked dirt roads leading to the town of Tuqu. They fired tear gas and stun grenades at Palestinian vehicles attempting to navigate alternative routes, as reported by Palestinian security sources. These closures have forced Palestinians to rely on unpaved roads to travel between communities due to ongoing blockades in Bethlehem and surrounding areas.
The Israeli military has sealed off Hebron and the nearby town of Halhul following an attack on an Israeli checkpoint by two Palestinians, which resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers and the wounding of three others. The attackers were subsequently killed by Israeli forces. The army has indicated that its operation could extend over several days, involving house searches, interrogations, and efforts to locate weapons and what they describe as 'terrorist infrastructure.'
The occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has been experiencing escalating military actions and violence since the onset of Israel's conflict with the Gaza Strip in October 2023. These actions have included killings, detentions, demolitions, displacement of communities, and expansion of illegal settlements.
