Jerusalem: Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has issued a stern warning, asserting that the government's approach to a multi-front war lacks a coherent strategy, sufficient resources, and adequate troop numbers. Lapid's remarks were made during a news conference where he highlighted concerns over the Israeli military's readiness as reported by local media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lapid emphasized that the Israeli Chief of Staff had presented a comprehensive assessment of threats to the Cabinet, many of which remain undisclosed. The core issue, Lapid argued, is that the government is engaging the army in a complex conflict without proper planning or provisioning. He stressed that the government cannot feign ignorance, as this is a chief of staff they themselves appointed, and as such, the responsibility lies squarely with them, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Lapid further cautioned about the potential for a severe security crisis, referencing the statements made by the army chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, who highlighted significant concerns during a Cabinet meeting. Zamir warned of "10 red flags" that could lead to the collapse of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

In response to the escalating tensions, Lapid called on the government to take decisive action. He urged an end to funding for ultra-Orthodox individuals evading the draft, the deployment of military police to apprehend deserters, and the drafting of ultra-Orthodox individuals without delay.

The backdrop to these developments includes heightened regional hostilities following a joint US-Israel offensive on Iran, which resulted in over 1,340 casualties, including the death of Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and other countries in the region, causing casualties, infrastructural damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
