Mediators Deny Iranian Request for Pause in Energy Strikes

Tehran: Mediators said that Iran has not requested a pause in strikes on its energy facilities and has yet to provide a final response to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict, media reports said on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency, US President Donald Trump had earlier announced a 10-day pause on strikes targeting Iran's energy sector until April 6, attributing this pause to a request from Iran. However, mediators refuted this claim, stating that Iran had made no such request.

Iranian officials have shown an interest in engaging in negotiations but emphasized that the country's leadership has not made a definitive decision. The United States has put forward a 15-point plan that proposes lifting sanctions in return for Iran's concessions.

The US proposal outlines specific conditions concerning Iran's nuclear program, missile activities, and its involvement in regional affairs. Iranian officials have urged the US to reconsider what they perceive as excessive demands. They have also rejected the idea of using discussions on missile programs as a starting point and expressed unwillingness to agree to a permanent cessation of uranium enrichment.

Mediators have indicated that the prospects for achieving a ceasefire remain slim. Both parties are sticking to positions that are deemed unacceptable by the other side.
