Tel aviv: An agreement titled the 'Comprehensive End of Gaza War' has been signed by Israel, Hamas, and mediators in Egypt, charting a course for the next 72 hours in Gaza, as per a document obtained by Anadolu. The ceasefire marks an immediate halt to the conflict, with plans for prisoner exchanges and humanitarian aid.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli government confirmed the ceasefire agreement through a statement from the Prime Minister's Office. This follows the approval announced by Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya. Although most government ministers supported the agreement, five ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, opposed it. The agreement mandates the suspension of all military operations, with the ceasefire taking effect immediately upon Israel's approval.

The agreement also includes the initiation of humanitarian aid and relief into Gaza, adhering to a previous agreement dated Jan. 19, 2025. The Israeli army will commence withdrawal to a designated area marked on a map presented by US President Donald Trump. This withdrawal to the Yellow Line is contingent on Hamas fully implementing the agreement, ensuring that Israel will not re-enter these areas.

The document outlines a hostage exchange plan, stating that within 72 hours of the Israeli forces' withdrawal, all Israeli hostages in Gaza will be released. This includes information exchange on casualties through a mechanism involving Qatar, Egypt, Trkiye, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. In return for the release of Israeli hostages, Israel will release a corresponding number of Palestinian prisoners, primarily women and adolescents, as per Hamas sources. This exchange will occur without public ceremonies or media coverage.

A task force consisting of representatives from the US, Qatar, Egypt, Trkiye, and other countries will be established to oversee the agreement's implementation and coordinate between Israel and Hamas. This agreement is the result of four days of indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with participation from Trkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, under US supervision.

The conflict, which escalated in October 2023, has resulted in the deaths of nearly 67,200 Palestinians, primarily women and children, and has left the Gaza enclave uninhabitable.
