Nablus: An Israeli soldier sustained moderate injuries from gunfire during an overnight arrest raid in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, as reported by the army on Thursday. The incident occurred when forces encountered resistance from gunmen during the operation, resulting in the injury of a reserve soldier.
According to Anadolu Agency, the raid involved Israeli military vehicles entering neighborhoods near the National Hospital and Faisal Street, leading to damage to storefronts. The operation soon expanded into the Old City and its surrounding areas, where troops employed live rounds and stun grenades. Witnesses reported that clashes erupted as Palestinians responded by throwing stones, prompting Israeli forces to retaliate with live fire.
In the broader operation, Israeli forces also targeted the southern and eastern outskirts of Nablus, including the towns of Beita, Urif, and Beit Furik. During these raids, homes were searched extensively, and residents were subjected to field interrogations. Witnesses noted that a young Palestinian was arrested from his family home, and another individual was reportedly beaten.
The Israeli army has intensified its military actions in the occupied West Bank following the onset of the Gaza war in October 2023. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 1,076 Palestinians and injuries to 10,700 others, with more than 20,500 arrests reported.
The International Court of Justice, in a landmark opinion last July, declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
