Israeli Strikes in Lebanon Result in 16 Fatalities Despite Ceasefire

Beirut: At least 16 individuals, including two children, were killed and several others injured in Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon despite an ongoing ceasefire, according to NNA and Lebanon's Health Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, the recent violence included an Israeli strike on the town of Saksakiyeh in southern Lebanon, which resulted in seven fatalities, including a child, and injured 15 others, with three children among the injured. Earlier, a man and his daughter were killed following three airstrikes in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon. Additionally, three individuals lost their lives when an Israeli strike targeted a vehicle on the road between Abbasiyah and Burj Rahal in Tyre district.

Another fatal incident occurred in the Chouf district of central Lebanon, where an Israeli strike hit a vehicle on the Moultaqa al-Nahrain road, killing three passengers. In the town of Meifdoun, an Israeli drone attack in the Al-Masarib neighborhood resulted in the death of one person, based on initial reports.

Separately, artillery shelling by Israel demolished homes in several towns, coinciding with clashes with Hezbollah members in Al-Bayada. Shelling also targeted Braachit, Safad al-Battikh, and Touline, extending to Ghazieh and Froun. Furthermore, Israeli forces fired illumination flares over multiple villages in southern Lebanon.

In Bint Jbeil, homes in the Al-Jabana neighborhood were demolished, and artillery shells were fired in the outskirts of Ghazieh at dawn. Hezbollah reported targeting Israeli soldiers and military vehicles in Rshaf, and claimed to have intercepted an Israeli drone over al-Abbasiyah using a surface-to-air missile.

Despite the ceasefire effective since April 17, extended until mid-May, Israeli forces continue their strikes in Lebanon, engaging in exchanges of fire with Hezbollah. Since March 2, following the Iran war, over 2,700 people have been killed, and more than 1 million displaced due to Israel's actions in Lebanon. The U.S. is set to host peace talks between the two nations on May 14-15 in Washington.
