Tokyo: Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reaffirmed Japan's commitment to Ukraine on Tuesday, pledging continued sanctions against Russia. Takaichi marked the four-year mark of Russia's war on Ukraine in a virtual meeting with the leaders of the UK and France.

According to Anadolu Agency, Takaichi stated, "Unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force must not be tolerated." She emphasized that it is "essential" for the international community to work in solidarity with US involvement to ensure Ukraine's future is shaped by its own citizens.

The prime minister elaborated on Japan's financial contributions, which include $6 billion in support announced in December. The total aid package amounts to $20 billion, she noted. Additionally, Japan has recently provided generators and other equipment to assist Ukraine during winter conditions.

Takaichi highlighted that her government will continue to facilitate recovery and reconstruction through public-private partnerships. She also confirmed that Japan will uphold its regime of sanctions against Moscow.

"Japan will never waver in its consistent position of standing with Ukraine," Takaichi asserted. The message aligns with international efforts to sustain military and humanitarian aid as the conflict enters a fifth year.
