Ankara: Japanese Premier Ishiba Shigeru announced that Tokyo will "work closely" with Paris on addressing US tariffs during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, as reported by the Japanese broadcaster, NHK. The discussion between the two leaders centered on the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump and the countermeasures implemented by China in the ongoing trade war. Ishiba emphasized his commitment to considering the impact of these tariffs on global trade and the economy.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron expressed France's desire to "further strengthen this partnership, particularly in key sectors such as the energy transition-with civil nuclear power and critical metals-as well as defense." In an X post, the French president highlighted that both nations "share the same vision of international trade: rule-based and mutually beneficial." He further noted that this inclusive approach, grounded in international law, extends to all cooperative efforts in the Indo-Pacific region.
