Astana: A Kazakh official announced on Thursday that the country's national security agencies successfully thwarted four terror attacks this year. In a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Yermek Sagimbayev, the head of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee, disclosed this information, underscoring the ongoing vigilance and efforts of the security forces. According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Kazakh presidential press service, Akorda, revealed that 84 individuals have been convicted for their involvement in terrorism and extremism this year. Further details from Sagimbayev indicated that 44 more individuals were detained, highlighting the exposure of 19 organized criminal groups. The security operations led to the seizure of 505 firearms, five improvised explosive devices, 45 explosive packages, and 15,046 rounds of ammunition from illegal possession. Additionally, Sagimbayev reported the prevention of entry to 824 foreigners linked to terrorism and extremism. Efforts to ensure econ omic security and combat systemic corruption resulted in preventing damages amounting to over 1.6 trillion Kazakh tenge ($3 billion), with almost $600 million reimbursed to the state's budget.
