Nairobi: Kenya officially recognized Kosovo's independence, the Kosovan president confirmed Wednesday. Vjosa Osmani announced on Facebook that Kosovo welcomes the decision by Kenya to recognize Kosovo's independence and statehood, following a statement by Kenyan President William Ruto sent to the Kosovan Presidency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Osmani emphasized that the recognition is a testament to the ongoing support for the right of the people of Kosovo to freedom, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. She expressed gratitude to President Ruto for what she termed a fair and important decision and extended thanks to Behgjet Pacolli, the former Kosovan president and former foreign minister, who initially announced the recognition by Nairobi.

Pacolli lauded Kenya as 'one of the most important countries in Africa' and described the recognition as a significant victory for the state of Kosovo. He highlighted that this recognition is not merely a declaration but represents the voice of Kosovo's freedom resonating deep within Africa. Pacolli also urged Pristina to immediately establish diplomatic relations with Kenya and proposed opening a joint embassy with Albania in Nairobi.

Additionally, Pacolli expressed his appreciation to Albanian President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama for their state support. Kosovo declared independence in 2008, a move recognized by the United States, Trkiye, and more than 100 countries. However, it has not been recognized by Serbia, which continues to regard Kosovo as part of its territory.
