Kremlin Acknowledges Trkiye’s Role in Facilitating Ukraine Settlement

Moscow: The Kremlin expressed gratitude towards Trkiye for its willingness to facilitate a settlement in Ukraine, as stated on Thursday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed a press briefing, emphasizing Russia's appreciation for Trkiye's efforts to mediate a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, despite the acknowledgment of Trkiye's role, Peskov indicated that Russia sees no immediate prospects for resuming negotiations regarding the Ukraine conflict. However, he affirmed Russia's openness to talks. Previously, Trkiye hosted peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul during the summer of 2025, with additional rounds held this year in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. The negotiations have been stalled since the onset of the war in Iran.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking in Kyiv, mentioned that resuming the Istanbul process could be advantageous. Peskov highlighted the complexity of many conflicts, suggesting that resolving them through a simple deal, particularly involving the US, might be unattainable. He emphasized the necessity of a lengthy, complex, and comprehensive resolution process to achieve a lasting settlement.

Peskov refrained from making comparisons between the situations in Ukraine and Iran, noting the uniqueness of each conflict. He expressed concern over the recent destabilization in the Gulf and its potential negative impact on the global economy, which he described as being in a dire state.

Additionally, Peskov commented on recent developments in Ukraine, stating that changes in the Ukrainian government hold no fundamental importance for Russia. He underscored that Russia's primary focus remains on resolving the situation and safeguarding its own interests. This comes in the wake of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's announcement of a Cabinet reshuffle, with parliament approving energy executive Serhii Koretskyi as the new prime minister.
