Moscow: The Kremlin announced that Russia continues to maintain diplomatic engagements with Cuban leadership at expert and working levels. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized the ongoing dialogue during a news conference, addressing inquiries related to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Cuba.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov highlighted Cuba's status as an independent sovereign state grappling with significant economic challenges, exacerbated by international embargoes. He expressed concerns about the humanitarian issues arising in Cuba and reiterated Russia's commitment to providing necessary assistance. Peskov assured that these matters remain central in discussions with Cuban officials.

President Trump, in a statement on Monday, suggested potential actions regarding Cuba, describing the nation as weakened and under failed leadership. He alluded to the possibility of liberating or taking control of Cuba, labeling its leaders as violent. Trump referred to both Fidel Castro and his brother as violent figures and acknowledged a desire among some individuals to return to past governance models.

In a related development, Cuba's Electric Union (UNE) reported a nationwide power system collapse on Monday. Restoration efforts are underway following the massive blackout, which coincides with the U.S. decision to halt oil supplies to the island, intensifying Cuba's energy crisis.
