Oleshky:Moscow The Kremlin announced that a six-day ceasefire in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, situated in Ukraine's southern Kherson region, was deemed 'successful.' The ceasefire, facilitated by the United States, officially concluded late on Sunday.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the success of the humanitarian operation during a press briefing. He expressed Moscow's gratitude to the United States, specifically acknowledging US First Lady Melania Trump's role in the operation. Peskov also praised the coordination between Russian and Ukrainian human rights commissioners.
Peskov stated that while there are currently no similar initiatives planned, each ceasefire operation is unique. He also addressed accusations from Ukraine's General Staff, which alleged that Russia used the ceasefire to "regroup." Peskov remarked that it is a standard practice in such situations, and Russia does not exclude the possibility that Ukraine might have done the same.
The ceasefire, which began on October 27, was aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations in Oleshky, a city under Moscow's control since 2022. It concluded at 2100GMT on Sunday.
In other remarks, Peskov commented on the possibility of resuming Russian gas deliveries to Europe through Ukraine, indicating that current circumstances do not allow for such plans. He referenced a Wall Street Journal report about US proposals to resume gas supplies via a US intermediary, suggesting it could present a lucrative opportunity for American investors, depending on the willingness of buyers and sellers.
Peskov also discussed preparations for Russian President Vladimir Putin's schedule at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on November 18-19, including potential meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump. However, no specific plans have been confirmed regarding a meeting with Trump.
