Bishkek: Kyrgyzstan has officially been removed from the European Union’s aviation safety blacklist, as announced by the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry. In a recent statement on Telegram, the ministry revealed that the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport has confirmed the removal of all air carriers certified in Kyrgyzstan from the EU Air Safety List. This list had previously barred designated airlines from operating in European Union airspace.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decision came after a meeting of the EU Aviation Safety Committee held from May 19-21. The removal will be formalized through a European Commission regulation. Kyrgyz airlines had been on the EU Air Safety List since 2006 due to failing to meet international safety standards. The inclusion on the list prohibited these airlines from operating in EU airspace, including overflights.

The ministry noted that the European Commission acknowledged Kyrgyzstan’s progress, which was demonstrated through technical consultations, an assessment visit in March 2026, and successful hearings in Brussels. The commission has committed to continuing technical cooperation with Kyrgyz authorities to ensure that the improvements are maintained.
