Landslide Claims 18 Lives in Himachal Pradesh as Bus is Buried

Bilaspur: The death toll has reached 18 following a devastating landslide that struck a bus in India's Himachal Pradesh state, officials reported. The incident occurred in the Bilaspur district, prompting a swift response from local authorities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Anirudh Singh, a state minister, confirmed the updated death toll through a post on the US social media platform, X. He assured that authorities are providing all necessary support in the ongoing relief and rescue operations. A statement from the chief minister's office expressed concern that several individuals might still be trapped under the debris, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

The rescue efforts are being conducted with intense focus, and officials have been directed to utilize all available resources. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of life, extending his condolences to the families affected and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

The incident is part of a series of natural disasters that have plagued northern India in recent months. Monsoon rains have led to numerous cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, significantly impacting the region. Typically, the monsoon season in India spans from June to September. In a related event, officials reported that 27 individuals lost their lives in West Bengal state due to landslides and a bridge collapse caused by heavy rains. During the 2025 monsoon season, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed over 450 fatalities due to similar incidents.
