Landslide Claims Lives of 10 Family Members in Southern Philippines

Malapatan: At least 10 people lost their lives when a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, buried them in the southern Philippines, as reported by state-run media.

According to Anadolu Agency, the landslide struck a farming village in Malapatan municipality, Sarangani province at approximately 3 am (1900GMT). The heavy rains causing the landslide were a result of Typhoon Inday. Local authorities have stated that search and rescue teams are actively engaged in 'retrieval operations to ensure that all the missing are found, whether dead or alive.'

Malapatan Mayor Salway Sumbo Jr. confirmed that the fatalities were connected by affinity and by blood. Additionally, the mayor mentioned that forced evacuations are underway in certain areas of Malapatan due to ongoing light to heavy rains across the province.
