Netanyahu’s Policies Criticized by Turkish Foreign Minister as Burden for International Security

Ankara: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed serious concerns over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies, labeling them as a burden for Israel, the region, and international security. In a recent interview with The National newspaper, Fidan emphasized that the impact of Netanyahu's government extends far beyond Trkiye, posing a threat to broader international stability.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan dismissed the possibility of tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv escalating into open conflict. He highlighted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's commitment to peace and indicated that Erdogan would not be provoked into unnecessary confrontations. The foreign minister also pointed out that European leaders are beginning to recognize the risks posed by Israel, although effective solutions to address these challenges remain elusive.

Fidan noted that international focus has shifted away from the Gaza Strip due to ongoing conflicts in the Gulf, stressing the importance of increased global pressure on Israel to facilitate better international humanitarian aid for Palestinians. He emphasized Trkiye's strategic position as a mediator in regional disputes, asserting that the country's understanding of various conflicts enables it to contribute effectively to conflict resolution.

Fidan further advocated for a renewed security framework in the region that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. He expressed optimism that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran could pave the way for constructive dialogue, emphasizing Iran's capacity to adapt to new regional realities.

The Turkish foreign minister also commented on the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States, despite President Donald Trump's assertion that it was "over." Fidan attributed the tensions to miscommunication and stressed the importance of de-escalation. Following discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Fidan conveyed a deeper understanding of the issues and expressed hope that both sides could maintain the ceasefire and progress towards a peace agreement, while cautioning against potential accidental escalations due to miscommunication or provocations.
