Vilnius:Lithuania is planning to pursue a terrorist designation for Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, following its alleged involvement in attacks on civilian infrastructure across Europe, as stated by Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys.
According to Anadolu Agency, Budrys mentioned that thorough investigations and court proceedings are necessary to establish a direct link between the agency and the attacks before Lithuania can advance its initiative.
The proposal aims to affect individuals connected with the GRU by potentially restricting their access to Lithuanian businesses, financial institutions, and territory. Budrys emphasized that anyone associated with the GRU would be viewed as supporting terrorism, and thus would not be welcome in Lithuania's economic or physical spaces.
Budrys accused the GRU of targeting European civilian infrastructure to instill fear and called for accountability. He urged EU countries to take action against the GRU at the upcoming Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.
