Paris:Marine Le Pen, a prominent member of France's far-right National Rally party, is leading in the polls for the 2027 presidential election. Her support remains steady despite allegations involving party leader Jordan Bardella, according to a poll published by broadcaster RTL.
According to Anadolu Agency, the latest survey conducted by Toluna Harris Interactive indicates that Le Pen has between 35% and 37% support for the first round of voting on April 18, depending on the candidates running. Bardella, who leads the National Rally, has denied accusations of antisemitic writings from 2013 attributed to him by investigative outlet Mediapart. These allegations surfaced roughly two weeks before the poll's release.
The survey reveals that Le Pen is viewed more positively than Bardella on several leadership criteria. About 51% of those surveyed believe Le Pen would make a good president, a 6% increase from the previous poll. Bardella received a 47% approval on this measure. Furthermore, 54% of respondents think Le Pen is capable of keeping her promises, compared to 50% for Bardella, with Le Pen's score improving by 6 points.
Regarding the candidates' ambition, Le Pen scored 73%, an increase of 3 points, while Bardella scored 69%. The upcoming elections will not include current French President Emmanuel Macron, who is barred from running due to term limits. The second round of voting is scheduled for May 2, if necessary.
