Los Angeles: The Los Angeles City Council has approved an ordinance officially designating the city as a 'sanctuary city' in reaction to President-elect Donald Trump's proposed mass deportation efforts, according to American local media. According to Anadolu Agency, the newly passed measure restricts local resources from being used for federal immigration enforcement, the Daily Caller, a news and opinion website based in Washington, D.C., reported. It also bars city agencies from sharing information about undocumented residents with federal authorities, said the website. The council's unanimous vote places Los Angeles among several US cities adopting similar protections for undocumented individuals, it said. The ordinance now faces a procedural second vote. Although Mayor Karen Bass, a supporter of the initiative, holds veto power, she is not expected to oppose the measure, the Daily Caller added.
