Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday expressed his disapproval of the ongoing escalation in southern Lebanon, emphasizing that 'nothing justifies' the growing tensions in the region. Macron stated that France would continue to support Lebanese authorities in their efforts to restore state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Anadolu Agency, the situation has intensified as the Israeli army persists with its daily attacks across Lebanon, despite a ceasefire that was established on April 17 and extended for 45 days following indirect US-mediated talks. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli attacks since March 2 have resulted in over 3,370 fatalities and more than 10,000 injuries.

Macron also addressed tensions between the US and Iran, highlighting the necessity for a swift agreement between the two nations. He mentioned his discussions with regional leaders and underscored the urgency of reaching a ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz without any preconditions, in accordance with international law. Macron advocated for further negotiations aimed at a comprehensive agreement covering nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as broader regional stability.

He affirmed France's readiness to contribute by assisting in the resumption of maritime traffic through the independent multinational mission established with the United Kingdom, supporting nuclear discussions with its expertise, and aiding in the establishment of a regional security framework. Macron emphasized that stability in the region should begin with Lebanon, where he urged for an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities.
