Berlin: German automaker Mercedes-Benz will recall approximately 223,000 commercial vehicles globally due to a problem with airbags, as reported by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on Monday. This recall affects a significant number of vehicles, with data indicating that 60,246 of them are located in Germany.

According to Anadolu Agency, the affected vehicles include the Viano and Vito van models manufactured between December 2002 and February 2006. The issue arises during an accident where the airbag deploys, posing a potential risk to passengers. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority noted that in such cases, the gas generator within the airbag may explode, compromising the airbag's ability to provide safety. This explosion could lead to the rupture of gas generator parts, resulting in possible injuries to passengers.

The recall highlights a critical safety concern for Mercedes-Benz, as the company works to address the airbag defect in the specified van models. The situation calls for prompt action from the automaker to ensure the safety of its customers and mitigate any potential risks associated with the defect.
