Netherlands and Trkiye Commemorate 100 Years of Friendship with Sapling Planting Initiative.

Ankara: The Embassy of the Netherlands in Ankara launched an initiative Thursday to plant 10,000 saplings in southwestern Trkiye in celebration of the centennial of Turkish-Dutch friendship. A planting ceremony took place in the Trkiye-Netherlands Friendship Forest in the Marmaris district of Mugla province which was established in 2022. The event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Friendship Treaty signed between both countries. It also monitored the growth of trees planted previously in the memorial forest. Marmaris Mayor Acar Unlu highlighted the role of nature in fostering friendship and described the initiative as a meaningful blend of nature and camaraderie. Ambassador Joep Wijnands extended well wishes to those participating in the planting. 'Today, we are celebrating our 100-year friendship in Marmaris,' he said in the Turkish language. 'We have come together to further strengthen these special bonds. This beautiful friendship will live on forever.' According to Anadolu Agency, the initia tive represents a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between the Netherlands and Trkiye. The Friendship Treaty of 1924 laid the foundation for diplomatic engagements and cooperation between the two nations. The planting of 10,000 saplings not only symbolizes the growth and nurturing of bilateral relations but also reflects a shared commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The event was attended by dignitaries and citizens from both countries, underscoring the deep-rooted connections and mutual respect that have characterized Turkish-Dutch relations over the past century. The Trkiye-Netherlands Friendship Forest serves as a living testament to this enduring partnership, with each sapling representing a step towards a sustainable and collaborative future.
