Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged his 'invariable support' for Russia and expressed confidence in Moscow's victory in what he described as a 'sacred war,' state media reported Tuesday. Kim made these remarks in a message sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to Putin's congratulations on the 78th founding anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

According to Anadolu Agency, Kim's message, sent on Sunday, highlighted his firm belief in the eventual victory of Russia in its current efforts to defend national security interests and uphold international justice. Kim assured Putin of his unwavering support, referring to him as a 'dear friend,' and extended his solidarity to the 'fraternal Russian people.'

Kim emphasized the strengthening unity between North Korea and Russia, describing it as a continuation of their 'great history of alliance.' He highlighted the countries' joint efforts in 'protecting justice and peace' while expressing his government's determination to 'expand and deepen' cooperative ties with Moscow. This commitment, he noted, is rooted in their shared traditions of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual assistance.

The relationship between Pyongyang and Moscow has grown considerably closer since both nations signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June 2024. This agreement includes a mutual defense clause that obligates each country to provide military support if the other faces an armed attack.
