Islamabad: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has announced his expectation that the United States and Iran will engage in talks this weekend in Islamabad, Pakistan. Grossi highlighted that these negotiations are likely to be more comprehensive in nature.

According to Anadolu Agency, Grossi shared in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that the discussions are set to address a range of issues, including missiles, Iran-aligned militias, and security assurances for Tehran. Grossi remarked, "This time, there will also be missiles, militias allied with the Islamic Republic, security guarantees for Iran on the table."

Grossi also indicated the possibility of a temporary resolution, emphasizing that a non-military approach is preferable. He mentioned the existence of diplomatic strategies that could lead to a pause in enrichment activities due to the current political, military, and trust environment, with a potential reevaluation in the future.

Recent tensions have escalated following continued US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which began on February 28 and have resulted in over 1,340 deaths, including that of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military bases. These actions have led to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
