Ankara: The US Coast Guard has revealed that OceanGate employed 'intimidation tactics' to circumvent regulatory oversight before the Titan submersible disaster. The incident occurred during a dive on June 18, 2023, to the Titanic wreck, resulting in the catastrophic implosion of the Titan submersible and the loss of all five individuals aboard.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Coast Guard's investigation, led by Jason Neubauer, determined that the tragedy was preventable. Neubauer stated, "This marine casualty and the loss of five lives was preventable," emphasizing the findings of the investigation. The comprehensive 300-page report detailed how OceanGate used intimidation and its favorable reputation to sidestep regulatory scrutiny, alongside allowances for scientific operations.

The report identified several causes for the Titan sub's implosion. It highlighted that the submersible's design and testing processes failed to adequately address key engineering principles essential for safe operation in high-risk environments. Much of the responsibility was attributed to CEO Stockton Rush, who perished in the disaster. The report accused him of negligence that contributed to the deaths of four other individuals.

Additionally, the report noted that OceanGate disregarded safety protocols due to financial pressures and a 'toxic workplace environment.' The company reportedly used firings and the 'looming threat' of dismissal as methods to silence staff and contractors who expressed safety concerns.
