New York:Oman has pledged to continue safeguarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and has called for a political settlement between Iran and the United States to resolve ongoing disputes.

According to Anadolu Agency, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi addressed the 81st UN General Assembly, highlighting concerns over regional security threats and disruptions caused by US-Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year. These events have affected shipping, trade, and energy security in the strategic waterway.

Albusaidi emphasized Oman's commitment to protecting navigation through the strait in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties to collaborate with Muscat to ensure safe passage through the chokepoint, respecting the interests of dependent countries.

He also encouraged Tehran and Washington to resolve their disputes and pursue political understandings for a lasting resolution to the crisis.

The foreign minister expressed solidarity with neighboring countries in their efforts to protect security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Regarding Yemen, he reaffirmed support for a political settlement to maintain the country's unity and stability, calling for an agreement that upholds Yemen's sovereignty and relations with its neighbors.
