Geneva:Palestine has called on companies worldwide to reassess their relationships with businesses involved in activities linked to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, as detailed in the updated United Nations human rights office's database.
According to Anadolu Agency, Palestine's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Ibrahim Khraishi, expressed support for the latest update from the UN rights office, which includes 214 companies, with 61 newly added businesses. Khraishi emphasized that many of these enterprises are Israeli, with connections to various companies globally, and urged the review of such ties.
The updated database lists companies from 11 countries engaged in specified settlement-related activities. The Palestinian envoy commended companies that have ceased involvement in these activities, some even terminating existing contracts, and called for the UN rights office to maintain annual updates to the database.
Five companies previously listed were removed after the office determined their cessation of the specified activities. Notably, Israel did not participate in the meeting when the update was presented and did not respond.
During the session, Spain's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva criticized Israel for alleged violations of fundamental rights in the occupied regions and urged adherence to UN Security Council resolutions. He called for Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, emphasizing that a two-state solution remains the only path to a just and lasting peace.
