Jenin: A 20-year-old Palestinian detainee, Ahmad Saeed Tazazaa, has died while in Israeli custody, according to prisoners' affairs groups. The Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Commission of Detainees' Affairs confirmed in a joint statement that Tazazaa passed away at Israel's Megiddo Prison in northern Israel.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tazazaa was being held without trial under Israel's administrative detention policy, which allows for the detention of Palestinians for up to six months without charge. This detention can be extended up to five years through military court orders. Tazazaa had been detained since May 6, though details surrounding his death remain undisclosed by the authorities.

This recent death raises the tally of Palestinians who have died in Israeli custody to 76 since October 2023. These figures are based on confirmed identities amidst ongoing cases of enforced disappearance, as per Palestinian data.

The broader context of the conflict has seen significant violence, with the Palestinian Health Ministry reporting that over 1,012 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank since the onset of Israel's conflict in the Gaza Strip.
