Idohu: At least three people lost their lives in an overnight attack in the village of Idohu, located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The violence has been attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group known to be affiliated with the Islamic State in Central Africa, as reported by UN radio on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the attackers, armed with rifles and machetes, entered Idohu in the eastern province of Ituri around 7 p.m. (1700GMT) on Saturday. They opened fire indiscriminately and broke into homes, prompting a response from army forces.

Three bodies, including that of a woman, were discovered Sunday morning in the Walesse Vonkutu chiefdom. Searches for additional victims continued, with the possibility of the death toll rising as several individuals remained missing, as reported by UN radio citing local sources.

This incident marks the second attack by the ADF in Idohu, following a previous assault in March that resulted in about 10 fatalities. It comes in the wake of another overnight attack last week in the town of Komanda in Ituri, where 43 civilians, including several Catholic catechumens preparing for confirmation, were killed.

The ADF's activities in eastern Congo have escalated in recent years. Originally formed in Uganda, the armed group has crossed borders, establishing a presence in the Kivu region by exploiting political instability and local conflicts.

The group has been responsible for numerous deadly attacks targeting both security forces and civilians, primarily in rural areas.
