Palestinian Political Prisoners Face Human Rights Crisis Under Israeli Occupation

Accra:Gaza Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons are enduring severe human rights violations. The situation highlights both the harsh conditions of the Israeli prison system and the international community's failure to safeguard fundamental human rights, uphold international law, and hold violators accountable.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, reports and testimonies have documented severe abuse, torture, denial of medical care, and other forms of degrading and inhumane treatment suffered by Palestinian prisoners. Since the onset of the genocide in the occupied Gaza Strip, over 100 Palestinian political prisoners have died due to these harsh policies, necessitating urgent international intervention and independent investigations.

The broader context of occupation and repression contributes to the suffering of Palestinian prisoners, with reports of rubber-coated bullets being fired at prisoners and delays in medical care raising serious questions about accountability. Concerns have been specifically directed towards Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, whose policies are seen as contributing to these abuses.

The international legal framework clearly prohibits torture and cruel treatment, demanding humane treatment and medical care for prisoners. Despite this, the international response has been criticized for lacking urgency and consistency. Palestinian rights organizations and families have called for international intervention to enforce fundamental rights and protect lives.

The crisis underscores a failure in international human rights mechanisms, with double standards undermining the credibility of the system. The international community is urged to take decisive action, ensuring access to detention facilities, effective monitoring, and adherence to legal obligations to protect detainees' rights.
