Ankara: Poland evacuated two border crossings with Ukraine on Thursday as Russian strikes hit areas near its frontier, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

According to Anadolu Agency,'During my talks with Prime Minister Radev, Russia again attacked Ukraine near the Polish border. We evacuated the border crossings in Hrubieszow and Dorohusk,' Tusk said after meeting Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev in Warsaw, according to Polish broadcaster TVP World.

'This situation means we must act consistently and warn our European partners that this is a difficult time and that we must prepare well for the coming months,' he added.

Earlier Thursday, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski urged municipalities to prepare evacuation plans in case of an attack. In an interview with Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, he described a Ukrainian defeat as a 'black scenario for the whole of Europe.'

Kierwinski said plans had also been prepared at the national level, though their effectiveness would depend on 'the strength of the entire defense and emergency response system.'

'We might expect numerous attempts to carry out strikes close to the Polish border and ultimately to cross the Polish border by Russian aircraft, which would later be described as accidental,' he said.

The minister said the government was modernizing its alert system and developing a smartphone warning application to improve emergency communications.

Poland placed six crossings with Ukraine on heightened alert earlier this week following Russian drone attacks near the border, according to the Interior Ministry.
