Poland Probes Alleged Assassination Plot Against Prime Minister and Defense Minister

Warsaw:The Polish Interior Ministry has announced that police received a report about a possible assassination attempt targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

According to Anadolu Agency, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski and Tomasz Siemoniak, the minister overseeing intelligence services, ordered the initiation of actions in this matter. Karolina Galecka, the Interior Ministry spokesperson, shared the development on the US social media company X.

Representatives of security services convened an emergency meeting, after which Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for Siemoniak, indicated a 'high likelihood' that the threats would be executed. This information was reported by broadcaster TVP World.

Dobrzynski explained that the State Protection Service, which is tasked with protecting senior government officials, initially received the information and subsequently passed it on to the police for further verification. He emphasized the seriousness of the matter and mentioned that the threats were received via email, with police actively working to identify the sender.

"Officers, particularly police, are now working on the case. I am confident they will get to the bottom of it," Dobrzynski stated.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Tusk announced on X that a man 'threatening an attack' had been detained. Earlier, government spokesman Adam Szlapka told private broadcaster Polsat News that the situation was serious and that Tusk had been briefed on the threat on Sunday morning. Szlapka confirmed that Tusk remained in Warsaw and continued with his official duties.
