Vilnius: Dozens of pro-Palestinian activists gathered outside Lithuania's Foreign Ministry in the capital Vilnius on Tuesday to protest the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. Approximately 40 protesters rallied on Juozo Tumo-Vaizganto Street, waving Palestinian flags and holding placards, as reported by Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT.

According to Anadolu Agency, the protesters chanted slogans such as "While Europe finances, Israel bombs" and "Let Gaza live," questioning Lithuania's stance with phrases like "Since when has Lithuania supported the occupier?" The protest was organized to coincide with a meeting between Saar and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, where discussions were expected to focus on bilateral ties, Russia's war in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.

Police presence was noted at the scene, but the protest remained peaceful throughout. The demonstration reflects growing international pressure on Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza and allow humanitarian aid into the besieged territory. In May, Budrys described the situation as 'extremely difficult' and advocated for the opening of border crossings.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda recently described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as 'catastrophic,' emphasizing the need for Europe to take action to prevent further civilian casualties. He expressed a desire for the humanitarian crisis to end, highlighting the impact on children, women, and civilians uninvolved in the hostilities.

The UN confirmed in late May that it had managed to deliver aid to Gaza for the first time since Israel imposed a complete blockade on March 2.
