Putin is ‘Not Interested in Peace,’ Says NATO Chief.

Brussels: NATO's new chief on Tuesday drew a grim picture of Russia's leadership, saying that President Vladimir Putin is 'not interested in peace.' Referring to the Ukraine war that Russia launched in February 2022, Secretary General Mark Rutte said: 'He is pressing on, trying to take more territory. Because he thinks he can break Ukraine's resolve.' According to Anadolu Agency, Rutte explained that Ukraine is entering another crucial winter while Russia's aggression shows no sign of abating. He noted that Putin is escalating his rhetoric and reckless actions, emphasizing that the situation is worsening rather than improving. Rutte, who took office last month, shared these insights during a press conference ahead of a NATO foreign ministers meeting in Brussels. Rutte accused Putin of using Ukraine as a 'testing ground for experimental missiles' and claimed that North Korean soldiers are being deployed in what he described as an illegal war. Furthermore, he pointed to attempts by Russia and China to destabi lize nations through acts of sabotage, cyber-attacks, and energy blackmail. Despite these challenges, Rutte affirmed that NATO remains committed to supporting Ukraine and strengthening the transatlantic alliance. He announced plans to establish a new NATO Command in Wiesbaden, Germany, aimed at coordinating security assistance and training for Ukraine.
