Turkmenbashi:Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Turkmenistan for a two-day visit to participate in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) leaders' summit and a Caspian Sea environmental summit.
According to Anadolu Agency, Putin's arrival at Turkmenbashi International Airport, close to the Avaza National Tourist Zone where the events are being held, was covered by Russian state media. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by several officials, including Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.
A Kremlin statement released on Wednesday indicated that the CIS Heads of State Council meeting will evaluate the results of cooperation within the organization, set priorities for future collaboration, and allow for an exchange of views on current international and regional issues. The meeting is expected to result in the adoption of several documents aimed at enhancing cooperation in law enforcement, cultural and humanitarian affairs, and information technology, as well as improving foreign policy coordination among CIS member states.
The statement also mentioned that Putin, along with leaders from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, will address practical aspects of cooperation in environmental protection during the Caspian environmental summit. Additionally, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov noted that Putin is scheduled to meet with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and hold talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit.
