Qatar and Egypt Reaffirm Commitment to Mediation Efforts in Gaza Crisis

Doha: Qatar and Egypt announced on Wednesday that their mediation efforts in the Gaza Strip are ongoing and consistent, emphasizing a unified vision to address the unprecedented humanitarian crisis and establish conditions for a comprehensive ceasefire.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two countries released a joint statement dismissing reports of discord between Doha and Cairo. They emphasized that attempts to create division through doubt, distortion, or media escalation will not succeed. The statement reinforced their dedication to continuing joint efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza and address the resulting humanitarian catastrophe.

The statement further clarified that Qatar and Egypt will not be influenced by any internal dynamics or secondary agendas that do not serve the interests of the Palestinian people. Both nations reiterated their unwavering commitment to a clear framework aimed at alleviating suffering, promoting de-escalation, and working toward a lasting resolution.

Qatar and Egypt also affirmed that they are in close coordination with the United States to secure an agreement to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and ensure the protection of civilians. The collaboration with the US is part of their broader strategy to mediate a ceasefire in response to the brutal Israeli onslaught that has resulted in the death of over 52,600 people since October 2023, predominantly women and children.

Since March 2, Israel has maintained the closure of Gaza’s crossings to food, medical, and humanitarian aid, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the enclave. This has been corroborated by government, human rights, and international reports. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has reported that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are surviving on just one meal every two or three days due to Israel’s crippling blockade.

In a related development, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the enclave.
