Doha: Qatar declared on Tuesday that the ongoing state of 'no war, no peace' in the US-Iran conflict is 'unacceptable,' urging for the crisis to be resolved through dialogue and for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened without conditions. Ibrahim al-Hashimi, director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Foreign Ministry, emphasized the urgency of resolving the situation during a press conference.

According to Anadolu Agency, the remarks from Qatar come amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, where the US and Iran are engaged in a cycle of military attacks. Negotiations between the two nations have reached an impasse, primarily due to disagreements over the navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial channel for global energy and commodity supplies.

The conflict intensified when the US and Israel initiated a war against Iran on February 28, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,000 people, as reported by Tehran. Iran retaliated with attacks targeting US assets throughout the region. In an attempt to ease tensions, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding in June, facilitated by mediation from Pakistan and Qatar. This agreement aimed to halt military operations and arrange for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, implementation of the agreement has stalled due to disagreements over mutual commitments and navigation rights through the strait, leading to a resurgence of hostilities in July. Qatar's latest statement underscores the urgent need for dialogue and diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation in the region.
