Qatar Delegation Engages with Iran’s Foreign Minister in Tehran to End Conflict

Tehran: The Qatar delegation is actively negotiating with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran to bring an end to the ongoing conflict, as reported by Iran's semi-official news agency on Friday. The discussions are part of a broader mediation effort that involves Pakistan, which is playing a crucial role as a mediator between the United States and Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conflict began on February 28 when Israel and the United States launched military strikes on Iran. The mediation process has seen significant involvement from Pakistan, with Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan's army chief, arriving in Tehran on Friday to further these efforts. His visit marks the second trip to Tehran amid ongoing attempts to resolve the situation.

The Pakistan Army released a statement noting Munir's arrival and warm reception by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Also present at the reception was Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who has been in Tehran engaging in indirect dialogues between the US and Iran for the past two days.

During his visit, Munir is expected to discuss critical topics such as Iran-US talks, regional peace, and stability, although the specifics of his visit's duration remain undisclosed. Last month, Munir held discussions with key Iranian figures, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Munir's direct involvement in mediating between Washington and Tehran aims to achieve a permanent resolution to the conflict. The mediation efforts initiated by Pakistan led to a ceasefire on April 8, which temporarily halted the hostilities. Pakistan subsequently hosted high-level discussions between the US and Iran on April 11-12, marking the most significant talks between the two nations since 1979.

Islamabad continues to intensify its mediation efforts, seeking to initiate a second round of direct talks between the US and Iran in pursuit of a lasting peace.
