Qatari Emir Reaffirms Support for Yemen Amid Renewed Conflict

Sanaa:Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has pledged to continue supporting Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This commitment was expressed in a message sent to Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, in response to an earlier communication concerning the bilateral relationship and ongoing developments in Yemen.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sheikh Tamim emphasized Qatar's support for the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability, and development. He also reiterated Doha's dedication to strengthening ties between Qatar and Yemen.

The message coincided with the launch of Operation 'Dawn of Yemen' by Yemeni government forces against the Houthi group. Rashad al-Alimi stated that the operation aims to reclaim the capital, Sanaa, and restore state institutions currently under Houthi control. Government forces have reported progress in several areas, including the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized control of Sanaa and other provinces in 2014, which led to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in 2015 to support the internationally recognized government. The situation worsened after a UN-brokered truce collapsed in July 2022, leading to an escalation in fighting.
