RSF Drone Strike Claims Lives of Civilians En Route to Wedding in Sudan

Omdurman: A drone strike by Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resulted in the deaths of 10 civilians, including five women from the same family, in central Sudan as they were on their way to a wedding. The tragic incident was reported by a Sudanese doctors' network on Wednesday. According to Anadolu Agency, the Sudan Doctors Network stated that the victims were traveling along Assadirat Road, west of Omdurman, when an RSF drone targeted their civilian vehicle. The attack caused the vehicle to catch fire, leading to the deaths of all onboard. The network condemned the attack as a "flagrant violation" of international humanitarian law. It highlighted that the strike was executed using a guided drone, which they believe demonstrates a "systematic targeting of civilians" in the area. The network has urged the UN and other international bodies to apply pressure on the RSF leadership regarding this deliberate targeting of civilians, which contravenes international law and humanitarian standards. Cu rrently, there has been no response from the RSF concerning the incident. The situation in Sudan has been dire since April 2023, when conflict erupted between the army and the RSF over the contentious plan to integrate the paramilitary force into the military. This conflict has led to one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises, with tens of thousands killed and nearly 13 million displaced.
