Ankara: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Mike Hammer, the head of the US diplomatic mission in Havana, to discuss the situation in Cuba. The meeting, held at the White House, was confirmed by the US Embassy in Cuba, which reported that the officials reaffirmed their "firm support for the Cuban people."

According to Anadolu Agency, Hammer updated Rubio on ongoing efforts to deliver $100 million in humanitarian aid through organizations deemed reliable, such as Caritas. The discussion occurred amidst heightened political and diplomatic tensions between Washington and Havana, alongside recent developments in Venezuela that could impact Cuba economically and in terms of security.

The US operation in Venezuela has further strained relations with Cuba, as the Cuban government reported that 32 Cuban citizens were killed while performing duties for the Venezuelan government. Havana accused the US of aggression and violating international law.

Periodico Cubano noted that the talks might have also covered the effects of changes in Venezuela on Cuba, especially in economic and energy sectors, due to Cuba's reliance on Venezuelan oil.
