Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Moscow's commitment to ensuring all agreements from the Sharm el-Sheikh summit on the Gaza Strip are realized. He stressed the need for US President Donald Trump and regional leaders to secure an immediate ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian access.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lavrov highlighted the necessity for the creation of a Palestinian state as a cornerstone of lasting peace in the region, aligning with UN resolutions on Palestinian statehood. He expressed concern over ongoing tensions, citing statements from both Hamas and Tel Aviv that the conflict's end may not be imminent.
Lavrov urged President Trump and regional leaders to prioritize the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the establishment of humanitarian aid, and the restoration of the area. He assured that Moscow would support the implementation of Trump's ceasefire plan and cautioned against altering its delicate terms.
Lavrov reiterated Russia's willingness to participate in any format to aid in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, provided that such involvement is requested by summit participants. He emphasized that Russia does not impose its services but stands ready to assist if needed.
Additionally, Lavrov stressed the importance of Israel recognizing the need for a balanced approach that considers the interests of its neighbors, highlighting that the unresolved Palestinian state issue fuels extremism in the Arab world.
He also reaffirmed Russia's unwavering support for the Iranian nuclear deal and dismissed rumors regarding the poisoning of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, clarifying Assad's presence in Russia for humanitarian reasons due to threats against his life.
Lavrov noted that Syria remains interested in retaining Russian military bases, although their roles may evolve. He also mentioned that several Arab countries are increasingly interested in Russia's nuclear technology and its civilian applications.
US President Donald Trump declared the end of Israel's conflict in the Gaza Strip after Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages as part of a US-brokered ceasefire deal. This agreement, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and Trkiye, also entails the release of 1,968 Palestinian prisoners.
