Russia and Ukraine Accuse Each Other of Overnight Strikes Amid Ceasefire Agreement

Kyiv:Russia and Ukraine exchanged accusations over overnight strikes, following the confirmation of a localized ceasefire agreement in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, located in southern Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Ukrainian capital's military administration reported on Telegram that an attack injured two people and damaged a private residential building in Kyiv's Obolonskyi district. Additionally, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov noted that a drone struck the Industrialnyi district of Ukraine's second-largest city. Authorities are currently working to clarify details and assess the consequences of the strike.

Ukraine's Air Force claimed that its air defenses successfully shot down 101 of the 126 drones launched by Russia overnight. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that it targeted a facility used for producing uncrewed surface vessels at the port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine's southern Odesa region and a dry-cargo ship transporting supplies intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that air defenses downed 616 Ukrainian drones over 20 regions, including the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014. In Russia's southern Rostov region, Governor Yury Slyusar indicated that debris from a downed drone damaged a public transport company facility and a transformer substation, affecting over 170 homes and injuring one person. Restoration work is currently underway.

These developments follow the announcement that Russia and Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky, mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump. The ceasefire is scheduled to begin in the early hours of Tuesday, although an earlier White House statement indicated it would start on Thursday.
