Kharkiv:Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of carrying out overnight airstrikes that resulted in at least four deaths and more than 60 injuries.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that a Russian missile strike destroyed part of a residential building in Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskyi district, killing three people and injuring 15 others. The strike also targeted the Shevchenkivskyi district. Rescue operations are ongoing, with the death toll later updated to four and the injured count to 41.
In Kyiv, the city's military administration noted that one person was injured due to a strike on a residential building in the Darnytskyi district. In the western region of Khmelnytskyi, Governor Serhii Tiurin stated that drone attacks injured four people and damaged a medical facility. Meanwhile, 20 people were injured in Rivne, with one in critical condition, following an attack on an educational building. In the Mykolaiv region, acting Governor Heorhii Reshetnikov reported damage to a cargo terminal and warehouses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed disappointment over the lack of early warnings from allies about the strikes in Kyiv. He emphasized the need for effective pressure on Russia to achieve de-escalation, criticizing Russia's continued attacks on energy facilities despite an announced energy ceasefire by the US.
Ukraine's Air Force claimed its defenses shot down 88 out of 108 drones launched by Russia, and that Russia fired five ballistic missiles from Bryansk. Conversely, the Russian Defense Ministry stated it targeted military-related sites in Kyiv and Mykolaiv.
The Russian ministry also claimed success in intercepting Ukrainian drones over several regions, including Moscow and Kaluga, where a school, homes, and a vehicle were damaged. Some regions, like Tula and Voronezh, reported no damage from downed drones. In Bryansk, a drone attack injured three firefighters.
Both nations maintain that their strikes focus on military targets, not civilian infrastructure, amid intensified attacks over recent months. Independent verification of claims remains challenging due to ongoing conflict conditions.
