FIFA President Infantino’s Undisclosed Compensation Sparks Controversy

Accra:FIFA President Gianni Infantino received an additional $1.76 million in compensation in 2024 that was not publicly disclosed by the world football governing body, potentially breaching its own statutes, as reported by The Times.

According to Anadolu Agency, the undisclosed compensation came from FWC2026 US Inc., the company set up to organize the 2026 World Cup, alongside Infantino's official salary from FIFA in Switzerland. FIFA's annual report for 2024 stated Infantino's disclosed compensation was 4.274 million Swiss francs ($5.13 million), but a filing with the US Internal Revenue Service revealed the additional payment.

Miguel Maduro, former chairman of FIFA's governance committee, criticized the lack of transparency, calling it a 'clear violation of FIFA's statutes' and advocating for an independent investigation. He emphasized that FIFA's regulations require full transparency regarding payments from related entities.

The Times further noted that $626,229 of the extra 2024 compensation was labeled as 'other reportable compensation.'

FIFA, however, denied any wrongdoing, asserting it adhered to all reporting obligations. A spokesperson explained that the president's compensation and benefits are overseen by FIFA's compensation subcommittee and reported to US authorities accordingly.
