Moscow: Moscow announced on Thursday that discussions with Washington are ongoing to arrange a new phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. “This is what we are talking about, this telephone conversation. No agreement has been reached yet,” stated Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov to journalists in Moscow.
According to Anadolu Agency, since President Trump commenced his second term in the White House in late January, the leaders have engaged in two phone conversations, with the first on February 12. The second conversation occurred on March 18, coinciding with the US brokering two agreements between Russia and Ukraine. These agreements aimed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and to implement a 30-day halt on attacks targeting energy infrastructure, following discussions in Saudi Arabia. Despite these agreements, accusations of violations have been exchanged by both sides.
Ushakov also commented on the Thursday discussions between Putin and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Moscow, noting that the leaders will deliberate on Russia-US contacts in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the talks will cover various issues concerning bilateral cooperation between Russia and Qatar.
The presidential envoy highlighted Qatar’s humanitarian and mediating role regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and mentioned the possibility of Qatar serving as a venue for future negotiations between Russian and US delegations, although this possibility has not yet been formally discussed.
