Moscow: The Kremlin announced on Monday that it has yet to receive any official communication from the United States regarding the consultations held in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on a 28-point US peace plan aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. During a press briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov highlighted that, although there have been numerous media reports about the discussions in Geneva, Moscow has not received any formal documentation from Washington.
According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov emphasized that it would be 'impossible and inappropriate' for Moscow to engage in discussions about the plan based solely on media leaks. While Russia remains open to negotiations concerning a Ukrainian settlement, there are currently no specific contacts with the US on this matter. Peskov also mentioned that the Kremlin is unaware of whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to visit Washington next week or what topics might be on the agenda.
On Sunday, CBS News reported ongoing discussions between US and Ukrainian officials regarding a potential visit by Zelenskyy to the US next week. This visit is reportedly connected to US President Donald Trump's efforts to secure a peace deal in Ukraine by Thanksgiving on Thursday. Peskov added that no talks between Russia and the US are scheduled this week concerning the proposed plan, with Moscow planning to await the results of the Geneva discussions before evaluating any possible amendments to the document.
The remarks from the Kremlin spokesperson come amidst ongoing talks in Geneva involving senior US and Ukrainian officials on the 28-point proposal, which aims to advance peace initiatives in Ukraine. The discussions included a US delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside a Ukrainian delegation led by presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak. Following the talks on Sunday, the US and Ukraine released a joint statement indicating that they had drafted an 'updated and refined' peace framework, noting significant progress in aligning positions and identifying clear next steps.
Additionally, the national security advisors from the E3 countries-the UK, France, and Germany-also held a meeting with Ukraine's delegation in Geneva.
