Ankara: Russia said Saturday that recent US-Israeli strikes on facilities in the Iranian cities of Ardakan, Bushehr, and Khondab-home to key nuclear-related infrastructure-should draw strong international condemnation.
According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized that these attacks deserve unequivocal condemnation from the international community. She stressed that the violations of international law are ongoing and those responsible must understand the gravity of their actions.
The strikes targeted a yellowcake production facility in Ardakan and the Khondab heavy water facility, amid reports of attacks near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Zakharova urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to address the threat posed by Iran’s adversaries, expressing hope that IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi will convey the importance of halting such strikes.
Zakharova also noted that the attacks undermine the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, IAEA verification mechanisms, nuclear safety conventions, and relevant agency standards, urging an immediate cessation of these actions.
In a related development, Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, reported that the situation at the Bushehr power plant is deteriorating. Explosives have detonated near a pumping station supplying water to reactor equipment for the third time, as reported by state news agency Tass.
